5904 OPERATIONS AND PARTS LIST
OPERATION: The hydrant incorporates a nozzle-venturi adaptor (located above ground for serviceability), and a stainless steel under-ground cannister.

5909 Hydrant Operations and Replacement Parts

When the hydrant is turned off, the plunger seals against the valve seat and stops the flow. The remaining water in the casing (riser) drains back into the cannister which is buried below the frost level. When the hydrant is activated, flow through the nozzle creates a vacuum which empties the cannister through the venturi adapter at the nozzle.

Since the hydrant drains into a sealed cannister and not into the ground through a drainage outlet, the water never comes in contact with the soil. This avoids possible contamination of the water supply.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: The brass packing nut located on the head of the sanitary post/yard hydrant has been factory adjusted. If leakage should occur upon installation or after usage, it may be necessary to slightly tighten the brass packing nut.
"CAUTION": Do not overtighten the brass packing nut. Damage will occur to the inner O-rings. Do not leave the hose attached in freezing temperatures as it may prevent proper drainage of the shut-off valve. To prevent unauthorized use, the handle can be locked by inserting padlock into holes provided in handle and head.
